Vladimir Pankov


Pankov graduated from Oleg Kudryashov’s class at the Russian Academy for Theatre Arts (RATI) in 1999, and worked as a composer on more than 15 theatre productions in Moscow and other cities. Vladimir Pankov is the founder and the art director of SounDrama Studio and Pan-Quartet musical ensemble. He is also the creator of the theatrical genre of “sound-drama”. His has written the music for Plasticine by Vasili Sigarev and Sweet Bird of Youth by Tennessee Williams, both directed by Kirill Serebrennikov; for Boris Godunov by Alexander Pushkin and Twelfth Night by William Shakespeare, both directed by Declan Donnellan; for Shaken Tatyana by Lasha Bugadze and A Number by Caryl Churchill, both directed by Mikhail Ugarov; for Viy by Nikolay Gogol directed by Nina Chusova; and many others. His works as director include Red Thread by Alexander Zheleztsov at the Playwrights’ and Directors’ Centre, Doc.tor by Elena Isaeva at Teatr.doc and Passage at the Playwrights’ and Directors’ Centre. He received the Debut-2003 award for music for Sweet Bird of Youth; the Chaika (Seagull) Award for music in Twelfth Night; the Moskovski Komsomolets Prize; the Best Music of the Year Award; and the Best Supporting Actor award for his role in Plasticine directed by Serebrennikov. He was awarded a prize by the Presidential Fund for Theatre Enterprise Development.
