Ivan Popovski


Born in Skopje, Macedonia, in 1969; graduated as a theatre director from the Russian Academy of Theatre Art where he was a student of Pyotr Fomenko. In 1991 staged Marina Tsvetaeva`s ADVENTURE, which was recognized the best Moscow production of the season.
Ivan Popovski is the director of THE BATHHOUSE based on Vladimir Mayakovsky at the Fenix Theatre, New York and LITTLE BOOTH based on Alexander Block staged with Pyotr Fomenko`s students.
In 2007 he was awarded an honorary title of Ambassador of Culture of Macedonia in Russia.
Ivan Popovski staged the trilogy P.S. DREAMS, ABSINTHE and FOUR SEASONS with the actors of the Music and Poetry Theatre under Elena Kamburova; Lewis Carroll`s THROUGH THE LOOKING-GLASS, Eugene Ionesco`s THE RHINOCEROS, Nikolai Gumilyov`s POISONED TUNIC, William Shakespeare`s A MIDSUMMER NIGHT`S DREAM.
Currently is directing at the Pyotr Fomenko Theatre.
Popovski has worked in theatres of the USA, France, Croatia, Macedonia, Serbia and Austria; has been honored with numerous theatre awards. His production of A MIDSUMMER NIGHT`S DREAM is nominated for the Golden Mask National Theatre Award in 2016.
