Legendary Productions and Artists

The project “Legendary Productions and Artists” was initiated in 2005. The project aims to present outstanding theatre productions that represent the history and the heritage of the world theatre. The Golden Mask presents to the Russian audience glorified companies and great creators, whose art is not only a priceless treasure, but also preserved high artistic level and relevance.

In the previous years in the frame of the project the Golden Mask has presented Lev Dodin’s BROTHERS AND SISTERS and THE POSESSED of the Maly Drama Theatre - Theatre De L’Europe from St. Petersburg, the Berliner Ensemble’s THE CAREER OF ARTURO UI directed by Heiner Müller with the brilliant Martin Wuttke in the lead part. In 2008 the 14th edition of the Golden Mask Festival opened the world famous ARLECCHINO, SERVANT OF TWO MASTERS by Giorgio Strelher of Piccolo Teatro di Milano. To mark the anniversary season, in 2009 the Golden Mask Festival presented three world-renowned shows: the ballet piece IMPRESSING THE TZAR by William Forsythe by the Royal Ballet of Flanders, PUSH with remarkable Sylvie Guillem and Russel Malifant and Jiri Kylian’s LAST TOUCH FIRST (Holland Dance Festival). In 2010 the Golden Mask presented DIDO AND AENEAS directed by the celebrated choreographer Mark Morris of the Mark Morris Dance Group from New York. In 2012 the Golden Mask presented another masterpiece PERSONA. SIMONE’S BODY produced by the famous Polish director Krystian Lupa at the Gustav Golubka Drama Theatre in Warsaw.

The 19th edition of the Golden Mask will open with the masterpiece Stifters Dinge produced by Heiner Goebbels at the Vidy-Lausanne Theatre, Switzerland.
