THE BEAR

Anton Chekhov`s play “The Bear” is well known to everyone since school days. It is a story of two temperamental people ready to take up guns to prove who is right and who is wrong. And if one of the duelists is a woman and the other is a man, the finale can be easily predicted. Good old vaudeville seems to have fallen out of fashion but, nevertheless, constantly returns to the stage. Unfortunately, not always with a successful result. But this is not the case when the director is Vladimir Pankov. He has created a modern, incredibly funny and witty performance with two brilliant actors in the lead roles, masters of grotesque or let us say high comedy. The lyrical and comical in Chekhov’s plays always go together, and that is what we see in THE BEAR. The intertwining of lyrical and comical is highlighted by opera arias. The spectacular performance in the style of soundrama where the musical component is so well integrated will delight an audience expecting a theatrical treat.
